Key Strategic Goal
Design an intuitive yet comprehensive media transcription and analysis platform from conception to launch by:
Translating complex Artificial Intelligence technologies like Natural Language Understanding into an easy-to-understand interface.
Defining the Brand Identity of the platform by designing the landing page, logo, color scheme and all relevant text.
The Design Process: AIMA & The Double Diamonds
The Double Diamonds outline the Design Process for a given product. Here is how I experienced each step:
1. Research
I conducted User Interviews with potential users from varying industries such as Journalism and Law. I listened to their experiences with existing transcription services and noted areas for improvement. Their input was then analyzed and processed to highlight key points.
2. Synthesize
A Persona was developed with a relevant Use Case. In addition, a Problem Statement was also crafted.
3. Ideate
With a better sense of direction, there were multiple design rounds and multiple levels of prototype fidelities. At this stage, I also mapped out the interactions of the platform. If a User were to click on a certain button, it would lead him or her to a different screen with more, corresponding actions to take on.
4. Implementation
Using all of the data, I eventually created mockups of each working screen using the design tool, Figma. At this stage, I focused heavily on not only interactions and functionality, but also User Experience. It was tantamount to provide a clear and understandable platform. This would not only pique the interest of potential Users but also retain them as repeat customers.
Designing the Right Thing
a persona out of many
With a strong sense of the problem area and the pain points, I crafted multiple personas, or ideal users of this product. Doing so creates a sense of realism and urgency. In addition, personas tangibly create a target for the design process.
For the purposes of this portfolio, only one formal persona and use case are displayed.
use case: Training videos
Many people rely on Youtube Tutorials to teach themselves a skill. These videos can be very long and oftentimes contain extraneous details though. However, Jackie still wants to learn and know all the concepts in order to master a craft. She sometimes gets lost due to the duration of a video or audio file and ends up quitting the video tutorial.
How can a comprehensive and coherent platform be designed to help Jackie identify key phrases, patterns and trends?
The answer: AIMA.
Designing the Thing Right
The final product
A Marketing Page For The Masses
AIMA needed a Marketing Page (shown below) to help funnel Users to the actual platform. Therefore, I designed a page from scratch using Figma. I tried to keep it professional yet aesthetically pleasing. I used the colors - that I helped define as the Brand Identity - to create a page that was comprehensive and also comprehensible. Simplicity was key in order to sell AIMA.
A Simple And Easy-To-Organize Interface
With the actual AIMA platform (shown below), it was integral to simplify the potential User Flow. Therefore, the two immediate actions to start the media analysis are prominently featured in green at the top right portion of the screen. It was also important to keep the platform properly organized. Therefore, Users were able to organize thumbnails of analyzed files into folders and sort them accordingly as well.
A Comprehensive Yet User-Friendly Analysis Page
The image below displays the Analysis Page of AIMA. I determined the most useful metrics to show - in conjunction with the Artificial Intelligence and Technology team. I also thought time stamps and speaker-labels of the file’s transcript would further benefit the User. At the top right portion of the image, the green button to analyze more media was added to encourage Users to continually use AIMA’s services.
Next Steps
The Next Steps include an optimization of the platform. Namely, it would be beneficial to a User if the platform could be mobile-responsive. In addition, it would simplify a User’s workload if the AIMA platform could directly record audio. This would greatly help cut an unneeded step of saving an audio file and then uploading that very same audio file.
